Saugeen Habitat Collective is a not-for-profit that naturalizes unused public green-spaces in the Municipality of Kincardine. We plant native trees, shrubs, bushes, grasses and wildflowers. We also create Food Forests to help with local food security in our community. Food Forests are open to the public for anyone to harvest. We also build and place bird and bat houses for wildlife.

To date, we have planted more than 1500 native trees in the Municipality of Kincardine.

Saugeen Habitat Collective works alongside community groups and schools. If you would like to support an upcoming project, please consider donating:

Why Naturalize?

There are many reasons we're passionate about re-naturalizing green spaces in the Municipality of Kincardine:

  • it improves biodiversity by providing habitats for local wildlife.
  • it enhances the aesthetic value of the space, creating a more visually appealing environment, which promotes community well-being, offering residents a peaceful retreat.
  • it helps mitigate climate change effects by improving air quality and reducing urban heat islands, and improve stormwater management by increasing water infiltration and reducing runoff.
  • it encourages outdoor activities such as walking and gardening, which can improve physical and mental health.
  • it contributes to sustainability efforts by reducing the need for maintenance and artificial landscaping, making them cost-effective in the long run.
